In the age of covid-19 soccer communities all across the country are at a stand still. Players are unsure when they will return to the field and coaches are unsure of when they will train their players.
For youth community sports this is especially problematic. Soccer balls are being replaced by screens and thumbs are getting more of a workout than bodies.
Problem:
How do we get youth players engaged with the sport once again while in quarantine?
Insight:
Youth players look up to their high school counterparts, but the current town social media accounts do very little to connect the two.
Idea:
Medway Youth Soccer Takeover!
How it works:
Each week we select one high school player and feature them on the Medway Youth Soccer Instagram account. The player will take over the account and post throughout the day, an inside look into their life as a soccer player during quarantine. This will allow youth soccer players to see specific workouts for their positions, what the players eat for breakfast, and how they spend their day.
Results
116% - increase in followers during launch week
1,500% - increase in engagement
The program, due to its popularity has expanded to weekly challenges (Friday Foot Skills Challenge), branded content and a high school coach’s takeover! Youth players can now ask their soon to be coaches questions like: “What are your expectations on the field”? or “What do you look for in a player”? All while getting to know the team!
